AFCON19: Uganda Cranes Players Not Training,Decry Not Being Paid Their Allowances

Today evening, a group of  journalists from Uganda and their international counterparts went to the Arab Contractors Sports Club Osman Ahmed Osman Stadium, a place that was supposed to be the training ground for Uganda Cranes at the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations.

The  training session that was supposed to kick off at 7:00pm (8:00pm Ugandan time ),did not happen and was officially cancelled after a communication about twenty (20) minutes past the time the session was to start. This is set to be a crucial setback ahead of the Friday round of 16 against Senegal.

No official reason was given to defend the cancellation of the training but  later on, we got wind of information from within the Cranes training camp that the players had gone on strike over unpaid allowances. We further decided to have a chat with one of the players ,who we noticed was online and had not shown up for training and his comments were, “We are not training today because we need our allowances paid. You journalists report that we have been paid handsomely yet in the actual sense, we have not, so we are putting our tools down until something is done.”

It’s not yet clear which allowances FUFA owes the Uganda Cranes team .
