Uganda Cranes A-Million Dollars Richer

Be it a football fan or not, everyone was surely amazed by the performance by the Uganda Cranes boys in the on going African Cup of Nations in Egypt. Garnering four points and securing second spot from group L coupled with breathtaking performances, Uganda cranes was surely a joy to watch and I probably know the continent still misses to watch the ‘sexy’ football the Cranes exhibited.

Anyway, the boys touched down at Entebbe airport this week after they were ejected by one of the favorite countries to win this tournament, Senegal by a goal to nil and were welcomed to State House Entebbe by His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

In a statement issued on his official Facebook page, the president applauded the players for their immense effort in raising the national flag while at the tournament through their tireless displays while on the pitch. He also went ahead to acknowledge that government has lagged behind in supporting the sports fraternity fully but will soon do soo.

He went ahead to advise the players to live a purposeful life and avoid acts such as alcoholism and womanizing since these are much likely to derail their careers yet they look to be fine young men and also told them to think wisely financially since most Ugandan sportsmen retire to misery when they are done with their careers.

The President gifted the footballers and staff 1 million dollar equivalent to 3.7billion Ugandan shillings and said that it was the players who would get a hefty share from this fee and not the officials. As sports fans, we only hope that the President can pick up from there and increase funding in the sports fraternity for the better of our country.
