Uganda Gets First Ever Oscar Nomination With The Movie Kony

The Ugandan film fraternity woke up to great news after a Ugandan movie got the first ever nomination the country has ever achieved in the prestigious awards.

The movie titled ‘Kony Order from above was selected by the Uganda Academy selection Committee(USAC) as Uganda’s official entry into the 92nd Academy Awards due next year in the USA.


For those who have no knowledge about these awards, they are organised by the Academy of Motion Picture of Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and these happen every year. These awards are aimed at recognising the excellence in cinematography achievements internationally.
The chairman of USAC Godfrey Musinguzi said that the selection is only provisional pending the film’s fulfilment of all eligibility criteria ahead of the October 1 2019 Oscar submission deadline.   
The film’s plot centres around two youths Aguti and Otti who deeply fall in love with each other but Otto is abducted by LRA insurgents under Joseph Kony.Despite Otto’s attempts to escape he is constantly caught by the rebels and beaten mercilessly. He keeps his love with Aguti by writing love letters to her. However one day when these rebels attack Aboke girls, Aguti is one of the girls abducted and soon as she reaches camp, rebel leader Kony falls for her not knowing of her relationship with Otti.
The film’s director Steven Aneny thanked everyone who made this film a success and preached for harmony among the people in Northern Uganda.
