In a year that has crippled the music industry allover the world due to the corona virus pandemic, some artistes have defied the odds and kept raising the bar high.

In a recent publication by Watsup TV, a Pan African Entertainment TV channel and PR & rating agency, three Ugandan musicians managed to make it to the inaugural list of the 100 top artistes on the African continent 2021.

These were Gagamel CEO big size Bebe cool, Big talent chief Eddy Kenzo and Rema Namakula. The three artistes who all have a binding factor in Rema who happened to have been under Bebe Cool’s mentorship when her blossoming music career begun and later Eddy Kenzo’s she has a child with. Ugandans have a big reason to smile after the trio raised the country’s flag high in the recent nomincation of top 100 African musicians.

This is a very big achievement for the particular artists and Uganda as a whole basing on the factor that the list was dominated by Africa’s biggest names in the music arena. Names such as Wizkid, Davido, Burnaboy, Diamond Platinumz, Sauti Sol, Tiwa Savage, Master KG, Omah Lay all made up the list.

This list was based on the musical impact these particular artists wield in their countries and not particularly on the music released the previous year since Bebe Cool, Rema and Eddy Kenzo weren’t some of the chart topping singers in the country last year.

While addressing the list, the CEO of Watsup TV, Mr Traore said that the impact, influence, brand value, career success both locally and internationally musically were the major aspects taken into account.

At a time when the music industry in Uganda has been torn apart by politics, this is another milestone worth appreciating and an inspiration to the younger artists in the industry. The other slots on the list were filled up by Nigeria that took the lion’s share with 26, South Africa taking 6 , Ghana 10 and Ivory Coast taking 7.

The CEO further added that these artistes with time will be called to award and celebrate their craftsmanship and hardwork towards the music industry in their countries and the continent in general.
