Diamond Platinumz only East African Artist Nominated For BET

The much famed Black Entertainment Television awards (BET) are set to go down this month on the 27th June. This saw Tanzanian singer Diamond Platinumz make it to the recently released nominations list.

The awards which are organised by US TV channel BET seek to recognize black excellence in the entertainment industry in the US and a little bit outside the the North American sphere.

Nominations for different categories were released recently including the category of Best International Act which is looked out by many Africans.

It’s in this category that African entertainers are nominated hence it’s populism on the continent. The category became more famous in East Africa after Ugandan musician Eddy Kenzo became the first East African to scoop the award in 2014.

It took three years for East Africa to get another BET award this time through Tanzanian singer Rayvanny.

However this year saw East and Central Africa get only one nomination through Tanzanian Bongo flavor star Diamond Platinumz.

This will be Platinumz’ third nomination after having scooped the first and second in 2014 and 2016 respectively.

The “Jeje” singer however will be hoping to have luck on his side inorder to win the award for the first time in his career. He will however have to tussle it out with Nigerians Wizkid and Burnaboy who are favorites to clinch the gong.

Wizkid’s Made in Lagos and Burnaboy’s Twice As Tall albums did quite impressive globally after their releases.

This has seen some Tanzanian legislators even advance Diamond’s quest to win this award to the national parliament.

Nusrat Hanje the MP for Chedema Special Seats took this idea to the national assembly. She told fellow MPs to vote and rally behind the “Wah” singer.

Hanje argued that a win for Platinumz would hugely benefit Tanzania’s tourism sector.
