Unlike the popular belief that music is an arena for illiterates and people who did not step into school, this notion is wrong. Globally the arts industry has some of the most learned people.
This is because most of these deal with alot of businesses a thing that requires them to be educated to avoid being duped.
Just as Raga Dee sang that musicians are educated, so is the case in Uganda. These have even gone on to a point of standing for political offices.
Below we take a look at the musicians who have studied to the highest level of education in no particular order.
Singer Veronica Lugya aka Vinka is not just a force to reckon in the music industry but in academics too. The Swangz Avenue singer graduated from Makerere University with a bachelor’s degree in tourism.
The 26 year old started her academic journey from Hormisdallen primary School before enrolling at Rubaga girls for her secondary education.
Allan Ampaire aka Toniks surely has the books to compliment his beautiful voice. The My miss singer broke onto the scene in 2009 with his song Beera Nange while at MUBS.
He later on graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in international business from the same institution in 2011.
He started his primary education from Mbarara Preparatory School then joined Kings college Budo for O’level and finally Ntare School for his A’level.
Hajarah Namukwaya is one of the most endorsed musician currently and this can be arributed to both her talent and education.
The education bit has enabled her to horn her business acumen. She graduated from Makerere University with bachelor’s degree in industrial art and design.
The Kokonya singer started her education journey at Kibuli Demonstration school for her primary education before joining St Peter’s SS Nsambya for her secondary education finally enrolling at Muk.
The Mpaka records CEO has always talked about how he used his upkeep while at University in Algeria to launch his music career.
The Superman singer graduated from the university of Algeria with a first class bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.
Funny how he ended up in music but he has always said it was his passion and calling. He only completed school to make his parents proud.
The Kireka boy went to Shimoni demonstration school for Primary and Ndejje SS plus St Lawrence Ssonde for secondary school before joining university of Algeria.
Another book nerd is singer Irene Ntale. The songstress graduated from Kyambogo University with a bachelor’s degree in procurement and logistics.
The 32 year old studied her primary education from Kitante primary school then headed to Kitante hill school for o’level before completion of high school from Makerere High now known as Migadde college.
The chocolate skinned beauty started her education from Victoria Nile school and then completed high school from Cityland college.
The Masukka singer finally graduated from Multitech Business school with a bachelor’s degree of business administration and management.
Real names Sulaiman Ssebunya well holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Kampala international university.
He might look funny due to his accent and type of music but the self styled Muyerubah never joked with his classrooms.
Earnest Nsimbi Zamba revolutionized lugaflow in Uganda no doubt and he’s immensely talented. The Dear Hip hop rapper who doubles as a poet graduated from Makerere University with bachelor’s degree in environmental science in 2007.
The Kawempe born rapper also attended Mengo SS for his secondary education.
Not making this list would surely cast doubts about his flows but well for rapping, it’s talent where education is not needed that much as long as you can rhyme.
However, coming from the rich family that Daniel Kigozi comes from, he couldn’t have failed to complete school.
He graduated from Monash University with a bachelor’s degree in International relations and media studies.
He studied his primary from St Andrews in Kenya before joining Aga Khan for his secondary education.
Perhaps the most learned musician on this list. The multi talented Iryn Namubiru holds a master’s degree in tourism and hotel management from Cavendish university Uganda.
She also studied from Bugema Adventist Senior Secondary School and Namasagali college.
