Burna Boy Makes History With BET Award Win

Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu aka Burna Boy made history last night as he clinched his third BET award.

The “Kilometre” singer was nominated in the same category as fellow Nigerian, Wizkid and Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platinumz who were his fiercest rivals.

However, the Afro pop singer walked away as the night’s winner of the Best international act category, 2021.

The awards that seek to recognize African American excellence in the fields of arts and sports were happening for the 21st time and took place at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.

Burna Boy while accepting his award called his mother on stage whom he praised as a great pillar in his rise to musical success.

By winning the award, Burna Boy became the only artiste to have won the award for three straight years.

He won it in 2019, 2020 and 2021. His Twice as Tall album co-produced by American rapper P Diddy hugely contributed to his win.

The album that did quite well globally featured the likes of Stormzy, Ed Sheeran, Sauti Sol among other great artists.

Meanwhile East Africa’s only representative Diamond Platinumz took to his Instagram to appreciate Tanzanians for the immense love and support they had shown him despite losing.

The ‘Jeje’ singer has been nominated three times now but is yet to add the award to his already glittering career.
