The 2021 list of Times Magazine’s Most influential people came bearing the name of Daniel Kaluuya , the Ugandan British actor.
On Wednesday, Daniel was listed under the category of artists where he shares a mention with other powerful personalities like Tracee Ellis Ross, Omar Sy, Kane Brown, Barbara Kruger .
The 32 year old’s career dates back to when he wrote his first play at the age of nine and won the competition of writing a play about two men in McDonald’s, which was performed at London’s Hampstead Theatre. Since then his career has taken big strides.
Ryan Coogler, a writer with New York Times writes “ To have a conversation with Daniel Kaluuya is a unique experience. He watches you with intense eyes and listens seemingly without fear or judgment, only attention and empathy. Admirers of Daniel’s craftsmanship often note his smile and how he breathes life into language. But I think his performances register on such a deep level because Daniel is a watcher, a listener, an empathetic soul committed to relating to other human beings, no matter who they are or where they are from.”
Daniel has received various accolades , among which is the most recent, the Academy Award 2021 that was awarded to him in April this year. The award was for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Judas and the Black Messiah according to Forbes magazine.
The other accolades are the Golden Globe Award, British Academy Film Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award, Evening stand Award for outstanding new comer 2010, National Board of Review 2017 for best cast, African American Film Critic Association 2017 for best actor, Austin Film Critics Association 2021 for best supporting Actor , Boston Society of Film Critics 2017 for best actor, Critic’s Choice Movie Award 2021 for best supporting actor, Seattle Film Critics Society 2017 for best Ensemble, Black Real Awards 2018 for outstanding actor , MTV Movie and TV Award 2017 and NAACP Image Awards 2018.
If one is to mention the number of times Daniel has been nominated for the different awards, they would lose their breath.
Times magazine’s list also features other categories like Icons, Pioneers, Titans, Leaders, Innovators. Some of the people under those categories include Prince Harry and Meghan(the duchess ), Donald Trump, Joe Biden and Elon Musk.
Kaluuya was born in London and brought up by his mother, a Ugandan immigrant, in a public housing estate in the British capital. His father stayed in Uganda.
